    “From one place to another”

    By Paul Pinga Matereke

Pinga: In this first entry, I wish to convey how the journey, whether by foot, public transport or passenger seat, has meant more than the destination. My companion, who has been hanging on my right shoulder for the last three years, is a camera. affectionately referred to as 3RDi (third eye). Mechanically sees what the organic two can’t fathom momentarily so it records on film for the purpose of gaining a deeper understanding in the future.

This is the first image from the roll, taken as I was making my way to Sydenham Station. The plan was to meet my girlfriend at the time in Burwood so we could go on a double date with good friends of ours and enjoy some delicious Chinese food.

This next image was taken at the platform, and despite it being of people’s backs, I loved the composition and colour scheme at work.

While I was at Redfern, quickly changing train lines, I discovered this composition. I love his facial expression, the flag and it tells us we are in Redfern which for anybody who knows Sydney history, it carries weight.

In Burwood, while I was waiting, a group was playing mahjong.

The moment I saw her crossing the road to meet me, her clothes colour scheme matched the environment nicely to me and she had just had her hair done.

Bathing in the sunlight before the sun sets.

Our friends arrive and finally it’s dinner time.

Burwood is known for its market neon lights decoration.

Security guard’s portrait as we walk down to the station. Incidentally, it was outside the venue where mahjong was being played earlier.

After saying goodbye to our friends outside the station.
