Description
‘The City Weeps’ is the debut issue of No Art Speak, a Sydney-based community film photography magazine. This issue asks what it means to weep in the city—from grief, to hope, to joy—through film photography and written works from a range of Sydney artists.
All sales go towards supporting future No Art Speak publications and film photographers!
All copies are printed and hand bound by members of No Art Speak in Sydney (Gadigal land)
Kicking off this debut issue we have had the joy of including an interview and photos from award winning photographer William Yang. Discussing his journey through photography and him witnessing and documenting the early gay scene and rights movement in Sydney.
Along with this great interview we explore the idea of weeping through an environmental lens. Denis Hasagic on assignment documenting the Cooks River in Sydney. Contrasting nicely with the feelings rhythms of the Sydney music scene and through that, Martina’s rediscovery of her love of photography.
Included also by Sienna Baxter is a moody piece titled “Falling Down, Burning up” and interspersed between all the above photography sets; text entries further exploring the ideas of “The City Weeps” by writers Daniel Merson and Aimee Cass with photographic dialogue by Pinga Matereke.
