These works are about creating surreal dreamscapes from the often chaotic tangle of the Australian bush and dense forests. “I am returning to the same hiking trails over and over, challenging myself to find compositions that are somewhat easier to read amongst the noise of the bush. I wanted to make something other than the straight landscapes at the same time I began experimenting with flash photography. That led to hiking before dawn by torchlight so that I could balance my flash with ambient light and use intentional camera movement. I am always wishing for rain; I think the best results often emerge from a bit of a struggle.”
